The FCIDD entertains project grant submissions from IDD nonprofits three times a fiscal year. Our last cycle began last June and grants were voted on in September, and we are excited to share the resources provided for one of the five of our partnering IDD programs. Look for more in blogs to come!
Forty Years of Farming with a Cause
Langton Green, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland has provided residential homes, opportunities for work, support, & services for I/DD individuals in Maryland since 1984. The 13-acre Langton Green Community Farm (LGCF) in Millersville, MD is a resource for residents & staff, providing a natural setting for community events as well as productive gardens, a flock of hens & room for rescue pigs and goats. We are excited to congratulate them on their 40 year anniversary, and going strong.
The non-profit’s mission is to provide dignified employment to benefit residents w/IDD who may choose to work on the farm & receive fair wages. Healthy fruit, vegetables & eggs produced on the farm are made available to 32 residential homes throughout Anne Arundel County. In addition, produce is donated to local nonprofits & food banks in the county who serve vulnerable individuals as well as being delivered to farmers’ markets, another work-learning opportunity for staff.
The video above is a wonderful iteration of all the things that Langton Green is to the Anne Arundel community. The foundation grant provided $30,000 with support of the Civitan Club of Annapolis to purchase a dedicated vehicle for food deliveries as required by state law. FCIDD has been a sustaining partner with Langton Green programs and projects for many years, and we are happy to see the organization flourish. Â Thank you for letting us be a part of your amazing work.
