Five years ago, in 2021, FCIDD and the Greater Silver Spring Participating Club provided $20,000.00 to Sunflower Bakery for their Pastry Arts programming. With the Foundation and Greater Silver Spring Participating Club's help, Sunflower Bakery facilitates the employment success of young adults with learning differences in pastry arts, production baking, front of house operations and customer service through training in hard and soft employment skills. Their focus is on their students’ strengths to enhance their independence, self-esteem, resilience and self-determination - key ingredients for employment success.

Sunflower had most recently moved into their new home at 5951 Halpine Road in Rockville, and were thrilled to have the space to expand the provision of skilled employment training to meet the growing demands of the food and hospitality industries.  It certainly would seem they have been successful and now have a new name, Sunflower Bakery Kitchen and Cafe! If you need a baker, tell them FCIDD sent you!
