Welcome to The Down Syndrome Network of Montgomery County, MD (DSNMC).
The FCIDD supports DSNMC's new program, "Strengthening Healthcare Engagement and Lifespan Support for Individuals with Down Syndrome," sponsored for submission by the Greater Silver Spring Participating Club.

Founded in 1986 as Parents of Children with Down Syndrome (PODS), DSNMC began as a grassroots family group. It became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2011, empowering individuals with Down syndrome and their families through education, resources, and advocacy. DSNMC envisions a world where individuals with Down syndrome are included and encouraged to reach their full potential.

A 2024 study in Disability and Health Journal found that over 70% of parents reported inadequate information from obstetric providers at diagnosis. DSNMC's project aligns with its 2025-2029 strategic plan, enhancing healthcare outreach and supporting individuals throughout their lives. It meets FCIDD funding priorities by benefiting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through education and improved healthcare access.

The project will build on DSNMC’s programs to create a sustainable medical education and outreach initiative for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. This $39,140 grant assists in funding the pilot phase of one year.
