With many thanks to our Grants committee and Board of Directors volunteers, we report on our October 1 grant cycle submissions with gratitude!
The nonprofit partnership that FCIDD has built with Providence of Maryland (formerly Providence Center) is one that sees great possibilities coming to fruition in a big way. Providence supports people with IDD to live their best life in their inclusive communities in ways that matter to each individual. The pottery and art studio in Arnold, Maryland, produces functional pottery and offers community space of ALL members (inclusivity) of the community to come together to be creative. In 2018, FCIDD and the Annapolis Civitan Club provided grant funding for an overhaul of the art studio, and since it has become a true hub of community where folks from all walks of life can “throw a pot”. This grant provided funding for new and replacement equipment:
• An additional accessible pottery wheel for people in wheelchairs to meet the growing demand.
• A more efficient slip casting tank and table with a pump to replace the old tank which is not efficient and is difficult for employees to operate and does not have a pump.
• An updated clay mixer which will help recycle clay and save on materials costs to replace the almost inoperable current mixer.
Our Dream Pursuits in Frederick, Maryland, is a 501(c)3 that was established in August 2014, with a commitment and dedication to creating transformative opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. They approached the foundation for a grant to purchase a concession trailer which they see as a strategic endeavor designed to propel their mission of empowerment and create meaningful employment opportunities.
Their future vision also incorporates many different vocational areas. This initial phase will incorporate food services becoming a hub for hands-on vocational training, teaching culinary skills, customer service and entrepreneurial acumen for individuals they serve. It will help break down societal barriers by showcasing the individual’s talents and capabilities.
“This concession trailer symbolizes the gateway to a world of independence, skill mastery, and economic inclusion for those we are privileged to serve. The financial assistance of Frederick Civitan and FCIDD will help us navigate the path of empowerment, and provide opportunities for employment, and serve as a catalyst to community integration, fostering understanding and acceptance", said Executive Director Beverly Shaeffer.
