The Fried Center for the Advancement of Potential (FCAP) shared the impact of a recent grant from the Foundation for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (FCIDD) and the Thomas Jefferson Civitan Club. This support enabled FCAP to acquire modern exercise and evaluation equipment at their Crozet, Virginia campus, enhancing clinic operations and their mission to provide accessible, evidence-based exercise for all. By September 2025, 80% of FCAP participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) met or exceeded recommended exercise guidelines, surpassing national averages.
The new equipment, including a treadmill, upright cycle, and elliptical trainer funded by FCIDD, expanded gym capacity, allowing more participants to exercise simultaneously and safely. Updated strength training machines replaced outdated ones, improving exercise variety and safety.
The new dual-purpose machines optimize space and enhance training effectiveness, providing engaging and efficient workouts. FCIDD funds also enabled the purchase of equipment for cardiorespiratory capacity testing, ensuring safe, individualized testing for all clients.
This equipment will enhance data collection on functional performance and health outcomes, evaluate programming effectiveness, and contribute to research on exercise and wellness in adults with IDD.

Thanks to FCIDD and the Thomas Jefferson Civitan Club, FCAP has strengthened its ability to provide inclusive, evidence-based care, making functional exercise accessible and transformative for all adults with IDD. These achievements are possible due to their support, and FCAP looks forward to future progress.
