Sweat, Strength, and Support: Investing in Adaptive Fitness

The FCIDD has partnered with several local nonprofit organizations whose mission is the physical health and fitness of people in the IDD world. People with IDD face unique barriers to engaging in and adopting regular fitness regimens, including individual physical and cognitive limitations, time constraints and transportation restrictions, and access to facilities and appropriate programming.
Enter FCIDD, and our partners in regular fitness: Spirit Club, introduced by the Greater Silver Spring Participating Club and the Fried Center for the Advancement of Potential (FCAP) introduced by the Thomas Jefferson Participating Club, just to name a couple.

Spirit Club SPIRIT Club is where every body belongs. With personal training, group classes, and virtual programs, every exercise scales to the individual's abilities, goals, and what matters in his or her daily life.

FCAP provides an average of over 4,000 clinical visits a year. There are no established evaluative metrics for physical therapy within the Intellectually disabled community; therefore, case studies provide evidence of impact. Innisfree Village’s six-year collaboration with FCAP contributes case studies that are exceptional for the field.

The Foundation remains grateful to learn about these opportunities to fund locally.
